One Dance Academy, five programs.

At Sears Academy, we acknowledge that ballet is the fundamental building block of a solid dance education.  However, we understand that individual dancers have varying degrees of interests, and available time.  Some students may choose to dedicate their time and energies to dancing, while others dance for recreation so they can enjoy other activities such as soccer and girl scouts.
All students at Sears Academy are encouraged to take ballet along with any other dance classes.
Our five programs are:

  1.  Pre –Dance Program (ages 3-6)
  2. Ballet-Centered Program (grades 1 through 10)
  3. Showstoppers Dance Team Program (grades 1 through 10)
  4. Recreational Dance Program (grades 1 through 6)
  5. Adult Dance Program (ages 18+)

Pre-Dance Program
The Pre-Dance program is a perfect way to introduce dance to your young child.  Pre-Dance classes are fun, imaginative, relaxed and are a comfortable environment in which we introduce basic principles of dance.  At Sears Academy, we specialize in teaching and nurturing young students ages 3 through 6.  The four Pre-Dance classes we offer are:

  • Kinder Combo Ballet/Tap, Fridays at 6:15pm (4-5 years)
  • Fairytale Combo Ballet/Tap, Fridays at 12:30pm (4-5 years)
  • Wiggles Pre-Jazz, Fridays at 9:00am (3-4 years)
  • Kinder Ballet Trio Ballet/Tap/Jazz, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 3:15 (ages 5-6)

Q.  How do I choose the right Pre-Dance class for my child?
A.  Pick the class time that is most convenient for your family and pick the time of day that your child is at his/her best. If your dancer is most alert and attentive in the morning, then pick a class that is offered between 9am and noon.
The most advanced of the four Pre-Dance classes is the Kinder Ballet Trio on Tuesdays and Thursdays as it is offered twice a week.

Ballet-Centered Dance Program
This program offers students a thorough education in the fundamentals of ballet.  Ballet-Centered students meet twice a week for an hour on Mondays and Wednesdays.  Students are allowed to take any other classes on the schedule.   Ballet-Centered dancers are placed into four different groups:

  • Periwinkles
  • Pearls
  • Royal
  • Rose

Placement in class is based on age-appropriateness and skill level.   See Ana Maria for placement of your dancer in Ballet-Centered dance classes.

Showstoppers Dance Team Program
Members of the Showstoppers dance team program learn the fundamental principles of ballet and jazz and spend approximately half of their time preparing for performances at WSU athletic events (Women’s Soccer, Women’s Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Basketball) and community events (Lentil Festival and local Jr. Miss programs).  Dancers are placed in four age-appropriate dance troupes:

  • High Kicks (grades 1-2)
  • Pirouettes (grades 3-5)
  • Leaps (grades 6 and above)
  • Collegiate (18 and above)

Showstopper members must take ballet in addition to their dance troupe classes, but have the option of dancing in the Ballet-Centered dance classes on Monday/Wednesday, or may take Recreational ballet classes on Friday.

Recreational Dance Program
Students in the Recreational Dance Program have the option of dancing one day a week, or two days a week.  Recreational classes are offered on Friday and Saturday and include:

  • Hip Hop
  • Ballet
  • Ballroom

Students are placed in class based on age (see fall schedule).

Adult Dance Program
At Sears Academy, we feel that dance is a life-long enjoyment and not just for kids!  All of our instructors take classes to maintain their personal level of technique and showmanship  and live our Sears Academy philosophy of lifetime learning.  We offer four adult classes:

  • Ballet
  • Hip Hop
  • Tap
  • Ballroom

Adult enrollment is a four-month commitment (September 15th through December 15th 2010, and/or January 15th through May 15th 2011).

AboutUs

The Sears Academy of Dance was founded by Ana Maria Sears in September, 2005. She is a business woman, a motivational teacher, a mentor, and a proud parent. Her own experience as a dancer and her observation of how dance has influenced the lives of her students is what inspires her to share her love of dance through her professional dance academy.

Whatever your goals are, whether you want a career in the arts or simply want to live a healthier lifestyle, Ana Maria can help guide you on that path to success.

Mission Statement

To encourage and motivate students to learn principles of dance. At Sears Academy, we specialize in Pre and Kinder dancing for our three to six year olds, and also offer a wide variety of classes for students ages 7 to adult.
